Last December, a family member had a health crisis. For the next several months, I wasn’t able to keep up my correspondence with readers. Thankfully, my family member is much better now. 🙂 And I have NEWS to share!
My next book—NIGHT BECOMES DAY: CHANGES IN NATURE—will enter the world October 5. That may seem far off, but there’s a lot that will happen between now and then. More on that later. Right now, I’ll simply say that my editor and publisher—Carol Hinz and Millbrook Press—have been fantastic to work with. Carol and I discussed the words and images on every one of the book’s 32, photo-filled pages. Through many emails and a Zoom call, we’ve mulled over metaphors and clarified scientific specifics. Her insight and experience have definitely made the book stronger. And she’s managed to shepherd this book to publication while managing her own health concerns. Her treatment is going well, and she continues to exude positivity. It really is a privilege to partner with her to bring this book into the world.
Soon, I’ll share the book cover and tell you more about how the book came to be. Soon, there will be links on my website allowing you to pre-order. Soon, I’ll fill you in on a Pinterest guru I’m partnering with—Deb Gonzales—who knows a ton about children’s books, childhood education, and the joy of understanding nature. Soon, I’ll introduce you to Lorna McGrath, a lively Montessori director who hosts weekly webinars for parents. And I haven’t even mentioned my fabulous critique partners.
Are you detecting a theme???
The children’s book community is FULL of dynamic, generous, whip-smart people. I never would have met them if I hadn’t started writing books for kids. I’ve been at this a few years, but in some ways, it still feels like the beginning of an exciting new journey. I’ll share about the ride through my newsletter and blog. Thank you for joining me!
What a wonderful website and blog! I’m excited to learn more about your journey and new projects as you share that information. Congratulations on your new book!
Hi Shaunda! Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to your upcoming books as well!
